Olympia Fields, Ill. – (July 22, 2022) – The Midwestern Amputee Golf Association (MWAGA) is returning to the Odyssey Golf Foundation in Tinley Park for their 2022 Adaptive Open. The 3-day event will tee-off with a scramble tournament on Friday, September 9 followed by the 2-day, 36-hole tournament September 10-11. While the scramble is open to all participants, the tournament is exclusive to men and women of all ages with a disability.
Formed in 2001, MWAGA is a volunteer group consisting of individuals who have experienced the loss of a limb or limbs. A 501-C-3 non-profit organization, MWAGA recognizes the importance of participating in friendly competition and promotes the value of golf for rehabilitation. MWAGA also provides information and training to rehab centers and prosthetic facilities and works with the First Swing program to partner volunteer amputees with clinical therapists, allowing the use of golf in rehabilitation.
The tournament is a USAGR (United States Adaptive Golf Rating) that is expected to attract golfers from all over the world. By competing in sporting events with people of similar life situations, this tournament provides an environment for “sharing ideas, realizing potential and forging lifelong friendships.” Fans are also invited to come out to the golf course and cheer on participants.
“We’re excited to welcome back this wonderful group, while supporting and promoting initiatives that allow everybody to participate in sports,” said Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau President/CEO Jim Garrett.
The deadline to register is August 26. For more information including hotel accommodations or to volunteer or be a sponsor, please visit MWAGA.org or email mwaga.info@gmail.com.
